Programs
The
Arlington County Cultural Affairs Division presents numerous arts programs that highlight the
richness found in the diversity of our population, and provide a forum for
the community's enjoyment, illumination and celebration. To find out what
arts events are taking place this month in Arlington, check the Calendar of
Events. Programs
are also offered by the over 50 Arlington arts organizations.
Arlington's Arts Al Fresco An
extravaganza of music, dance, theatre, visual arts and film -- all summer
long and absolutely free. Performances at parks and plazas
throughout Arlington are presented from May through September each
year.
Moving Words Adult poets and
students enrolled in the Arlington Public School
System are invited to submit poems for Moving Words, a public
art project co-sponsored by the Arlington County Cultural
Affairs Division and the Arlington Department of Public Works, in which
poetry is displayed on Metrobuses in Northern Virginia.
Exhibitions
Visual arts exhibitions are presented at The Ellipse Arts Center, Lee Arts
Center and
various alternative sites throughout the County. The Ellipse Arts Center
presents an annual
juried regional photography show, an all-Arlington show, a biennial high
school exhibition, a community arts showcase, fine crafts exhibitions and exhibitions highlighting the work of local, national and
international artists.
Arts
Education Programs are designed to enhance
citizens' understanding and enjoyment of the arts. These include
performances, exhibition tours, public lectures, workshops and discussions, some of which
are planned in conjunction with artist residencies.
Office of Heritage Arts
The Office of Heritage Arts works with community groups to
present festivals and theatre performances that celebrate the diverse
cultural heritages that make up Arlington.
