The Ellipse Arts Center is a 3,000 square
foot visual arts facility managed by Arlington County Cultural Affairs. Since
its opening in May,
1990, the Ellipse Arts Center has been committed to providing a diverse schedule
of high quality programs in the visual arts, providing opportunities for visual
artists, performing artists and arts organizations, and developing an engaging
and appreciative audience.

Knitting Jam with Laure Drogoul's Apparatus for
Orchestral Knitting
Thursday, May 15, 6 - 9 p.m.
Amplify your craft by bringing your knitting to participate in
Baltimore-based artist and Sondheim prize winner, Laure Drogoul's interactive
sound sculpture and knitting circle. A solo exhibition of her work will be on
display April 8 - May 31 at the Arlington Arts Center, 3550 Wilson Boulevard,
Arlington.
Transformer,
a Washington, D.C. based non-profit
artist-centered organization, will also be exhibiting Valerie Molnar from
May 31 - June 14 at 1404 P St. NW and Graham Childs from May 10 - 24 at
1840 14th Street, NW in the exhibition Here & Now. A conversation between
Ellipse Arts Center Director and The Thread as the Line curator, Cynthia
Connolly and Here & Now artists Mariah Johnson and Valerie Molnar will take
place on Saturday, May 31, 2008 at 3:30 p.m. at 1404 P Street.

Non-Juried Exhibition open to artists who live, work,
study or have a studio in Arlington, VA.
August 1 - September 13, 2008
Opening Reception Thursday, July 31, 7 - 9 p.m. with Flamenco Guitarist Gerard Moreno performing.
Parking is free and open late on the night of the reception.
Artists who are 18 years and older can submit one 2D, 3D
artwork that is no longer than 5' in any direction and no heavier than 40 lb.
Drop off one work: Thursday, July 17, 11 - 7 p.m.
Mandatory Pick Up of artwork: Saturday, September 13, 2 - 5 p.m.
A consignment form can be filled out on "drop-off" day, or you can
download and fill out the form posted below. Please provide a resume and
artist's statement for

Reims, France & Arlington, Virginia:
A Sister City Photo Exchange
Friday, January 23 - Saturday, March 7,
2009
Arlington Cultural Affairs will sponsor photographer John Babineau in
photographing Arlington's sister city, Reims, France. In exchange, the
Cultural Office of the City of Reims will sponsor a photographer from their city
to document life in Arlington. This exhibition will showcase the results of this
photo exchange, and a book highlighting both photographers will be available for
purchase.

Penned: An Exhibition of and about Drawing with Pens and Markers

"Penned" is an exhibition of drawings made using commercially available pens and markers. Each drawing will be shown with a photograph of the pen(s) used to make it. Artists making drawings, sketches, doodles, diagrams or anything else are invited to submit work. The exhibition will be held in the Pinkard Gallery, Maryland Institute College of Art as part of Artscape 2008. It will travel to the Ellipse Arts Center late 2009.
