WSC Avant Bard ends their 2012 season with another rep, leading off with The Bacchae of Euripides (directed by Steven Scott Mazzola, known for their productions of The Royal Hunt of the Sun and In the Summer House to the stage). The Bacchae will be paired with The Tooth of Crime, a play from the neglected, but compelling, early work of Sam Shepard, that sealed his reputation as a strikingly original voice in American theatre. Frequent WSC actor and director Kathleen Akerley (WSC's productions of Macbett and Jumpers), the artistic director of Longacre Lea Productions, will direct their production.

Bowen McCauley Dance beats local with the world premier of Lucy's Local Playlist featuring all-new dances inspired by DC area bands! Artistic Director Lucy Bowen McCauley selected ten tunes from over 50 submissions by local bands, which will become part of BMD's repertiore locally, regionally and nationally! The works range from selections by Imperial China and Taylor Carson, to Chuck Brown. One of the works will feature live accompanyment by the DC power-trio, Half Brother! After the Saturday night performance, join the band when they play again for the Post-Performance Party with food by Lebanese Taverna!

The 2011-2012 season finale for The Metropolitan Chorus is a triple-threat, featuring the works of Bach, Beethoven and Brahms! The program includes: Beethoven's 'Fantasy,' Brahms' 'Requiem,' and the Bach 'Cantata Number 4 Christ Lag in Todesbadnden. Featured Soloists include: vocalist Gina Watson Powell, and bass-baritone Alvy Powell, one of the world's best-known interpreters of Gershwin's 'Porgy.'

Bringing together nearly a dozen organizations from throughout the DC Metro area, the event incorporates a multitude of experiences into one afternoon, including: dance, music, visual art, drama, and fitness activities. The afternoon culminates with a special performance by the BMD professional dancers and the Kenmore Junior Company.

Remy and Veenhuizen were selected in March 2012 to create a unique design enhancement for the fence of the Water Pollution Control Plant. The design ethos of Tejo Remy and Rene Veenhuizen stems from a strong industrial design background, reusing existing resources rather than consuming new materials, and building awareness about our connection to the environment. Remy and Veenhuizen will develop and implement a compelling, innovative design concept which will serve as a unifying element within the Four Mile Run area, while creating distinct enhancements for the fence of the Water Pollution Control Plant.

With this exhibition our intent is to present the wide range of American Shino forms and surfaces made today by our member ceramic artists. We also would also like to dedicate this show to Malcolm Davis, a long-time friend and visiting artist of the Lee Arts Center. Malcolm passed away suddenly in December 2011.
