Grants

Arlington commission for the arts grants

The Arlington Commission for the Arts administers the grants program for Arlington County's artists and arts organizations. The Arlington County Policy for the Support of Arts Organizations and Artists (as approved by the Arlington County Board on December 8, 1990) describes eligibility for the program, application procedures and criteria for evaluation. For more information, call grants officer Steven Muñoz at 703-228-1852, or email him.

Grants are available for non-profit arts organizations that are headquartered in Arlington, and for individual practicing artists producing, composing, writing, presenting or supporting dance, literary arts, media arts, music, theatre, visual arts or related arts, who are legal residents of Arlington.

Staff and peer review panels analyze applications and make recommendations to the Arts Commission. Commissioners read each application, and consider the input from staff and panelists when making grant decisions. Arts Commission and panel meetings are open to the public. Dates and locations will be added as soon as they have been finalized.

Challenge Grants

The Arlington County Board approved a new challenge grant for the Fiscal Year ending June 30, 2009, to encourage small- and mid-sized arts organizations supported by the Arlington Commission for the Arts to expand their corporate and business funding. This grant is in addition to the annual support grants recommended by the commission.

To be eligible a group must currently be receiving either a General Operating Support or a Space and Services grant from Arlington, and must also be a 501(c) (3) organization. Subject to limitations based on the total grant pool, the grant is a 1-2 matching grant, and will be based on new and/or increased corporate funding support obtained by a group during the period from July 1, 2008 - February 20, 2009. (i.e. for every $2 of eligible funding, an arts group may receive $1 of grant funds.) The comparative period to determine the amount of new/increased funding is July 1, 2007 - June 30, 2008.
